On the eighth day of IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders will be welcomed by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday (March 29).
KKR and RCB have faced each other in 32 instances. Out of these, KKR have won 18 of the matches while RCB has managed to get victorious on 14 occasions. In the last IPL KKR beat RCB in both matches.

Traditionally RCB remained a batter-heavy team. They have batters like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik, and Glenn Maxwell who all can single-handedly change the fate of the match. This star-studded batting line-up had failed to be complemented by the bowling squads on many occasions in the past. Though RCB bowling unit have some big names in their pace-battery they are lacking experienced spinners. Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal, Alzarri Joseph, and Cameron Green are expected to take responsibility for the pace department while Glenn Maxwell and Karn Sharma are expected to be their go-through spinners.
Unlike RCB, KKR always boast with a strong bowling squad. The Knights' bowling units are historically spinner-heavy and this season their spinner brigade is well-equipped with players like Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Suyash Sharma and Mujeeb Ur Rahaman. The Knights' pace-battery lacks similar depth and diversity. Mitchell Starc is the only experienced veteran pacer in the squad to be relied upon.
RCB vs KKR, IPL 2024: Who will be the best bowlers?
Mohammed Siraj: The Hyderabad-born fast bowler was the highest wicket-taker for RCB in the last IPL. He took 19 wickets in the season with an economy rate of 7.52. In the last match of RCB in IPL 2024, he bagged 2 wickets with a meagre economy rate of 6.5. The role of the 'Hyderabad Express’ will be crucial for RCB in the death overs.
Glenn Maxwell: The Aussie allrounder is the pillar in the middle of the RCB batting order and also happens to be the only experienced spinner of this bowling unit. Maxwell proved vital in the middle overs on many past occasions. Like in the last match he bagged 2 wickets against PBKS in 3 overs. RCB will be hoping for something similar from him in this match also.
Mitchell Starc: The 34-year-old Australian left-arm fast bowler will spearhead the KKR pace attack this season. Though he has limited exposure to IPL, his momentous experience in international cricket made him the perfect choice to lead the KKR pace battery. In the flat pitch of Bengaluru, his wisdom and accuracy are much needed for the Knights due to the lack of the presence of another star-pacer in the squad.
Varun Chakravarthy: The 32-year-old mystery spinner was the highest wicket-taker for KKR in the last IPL, with 20 wickets in 14 matches. In the last match, he failed to deliver up to the expectation. In the middle overs, his bowling can be vital for KKR to slow down their opponent.
In the last season, KKR and RCB both failed to qualify for the playoffs. Both of these franchises have won their last match and will try their best to continue the feat in the next match. Hence, we can expect a furious competition between these two arch-rivals on Friday evening.
