RCB vs MI: Collision between pacer Mohammed Siraj and wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik during Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) IPL 2023 opener against Mumbai Indians (MI) left Virat Kohli fuming at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
The incident happened on the fifth ball of the fifth over of the match when Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma tried to execute a pull shot on Siraj bouncer. The miscued shot from the right-hander generated a top-edge as both Siraj and Karthik raced towards each other to grab it.

In the end, both the RCB players ended up colliding with each other and dropping the catch to give Rohit a reprieve. The entire episode left former Bangalore captain Kohli fuming in anger as he screamed in frustration. Siraj gave a major injury scare by lying flat on the ground but he stood up and resumed bowling fortunately.
However, 'Hitman' could not capitalise on the lifeline and was soon dismissed by Akash Deep on the second ball of the next over. A length delivery from the pacer swung away to take the edge of Rohit's bat and land into the gloves of Karthik who did not make a mistake this time around.
The five-time champions lost as many as three wickets in the powerplay. Siraj was on fire in the first six overs. He bowled three overs in the powerplay and gave away just five runs for one wicket in the form of Ishan Kishan.
Mumbai Indians were later left reeling on 48/4 after spinner Michael Bracewell dismissed Suryakumar Yadav (15 off 16) on the fifth ball of the ninth over.
Notably, Mumbai Indians finished last in the IPL 2022 season and have not won their tournament opener since 2013.
