RCB vs PBKS: A rain-marred clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 18th April, Friday ended in disappointment for the home fans, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a 5-wicket loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a curtailed 14-over contest during Match 34 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
After a delay of over two hours due to persistent drizzle, the match finally got underway, but RCB's innings never truly did. Having been asked to bat first, the hosts got off to a disastrous start, losing their top-order in a flurry.

Arshdeep Singh was at his lethal best, dismissing Phil Salt in the very first over and following it up with the prized scalp of Virat Kohli (1 off 3) in the third, pushing RCB into an early slump.
Things only got worse in the middle overs as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Liam Livingstone (4), Jitesh Sharma (2), and Krunal Pandya (1) all departed cheaply, leaving stand-in skipper Rajat Patidar (23 off 18) as the only notable contributor in the top and middle order. Tim David's late onslaught - a blazing unbeaten 50 off just 26 balls - was the lone bright spot as RCB limped to 95/9 in their 14 overs.
PBKS' bowling unit worked in perfect sync. Arshdeep (2/23) led the charge, while Marco Jansen, Yuzvendra Chahal, Xavier Bartlett, and Harpreet Brar chipped in with crucial wickets, never allowing RCB to settle at any stage.
In reply, PBKS made a brisk start despite losing both openers early. Josh Hazlewood tried to tilt the game back in RCB's favor with a spirited spell of 3/14, dismissing both Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis. But a composed knock by Nehal Wadhera (33* off 19) ensured there were no late hiccups, guiding PBKS to 98/5 in 12.1 overs and sealing a comfortable win.
The turning point was undoubtedly RCB's top and middle-order collapse, which saw them lose six wickets for just 37 runs between the 2nd and 8th over. It left too much for the lower order to do and allowed PBKS to take full control of the contest.
