The much-awaited IPL 2026 kicked off on March 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first, putting early pressure on SRH's explosive top order, and the Orange Army lost wickets early.

In a disappointing start for SRH, star opener Abhishek Sharma was dismissed cheaply for just 7 runs off 8 balls, New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy, making his IPL debut for RCB, struck in the third over with a back-of-length scrambled-seam delivery. Abhishek attempted a pull but sliced it behind, where Jitesh Sharma completed the catch. This marked the first wicket and continued Abhishek's lean patch against RCB, despite his recent heroics, including a quickfire half-century in the T20 World Cup 2026 final and a blistering 94 off 42 in SRH's intra-squad practice match. Duffy followed up in the same over by dismissing Travis Head for 11, leaving SRH reeling at 23/2 early on.
Fans were not happy as Abhishek lost his wicket early yet again, this time in SRH colours.
A fan has urged Abhishek to play the ball according to its merit. The southpaw has been giving away wickets in recent times.
Many of the netizens believe Abhishek Sharma's flawas in batting has been largely exposed and the SRH star will have to work on his game.
But since then, SRH have rebuilt with skipper Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen in the middle. Kishan, the stand-in captain, is playing a stellar knock as he bats on 72 off just 34 deliveries. Klaasen has also batted superbly on 31 as SRH are 126 for 3 at the end of 13 overs.
