In a pivotal move during the IPL 2025 season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have appointed wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma as the stand-in captain for their crucial match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 23.
This decision was necessitated by the unavailability of regular captain Rajat Patidar, who hasn't featured in this match against SRH.

Rajat Patidar, RCB's designated captain for the 2025 season, suffered a finger injury during a match against Chennai Super Kings on May 3. Despite a 20-day recovery period, Patidar has not regained full fitness, particularly for fielding duties. Consequently, he was included in the squad as an Impact Player, focusing solely on batting responsibilities to mitigate the risk of aggravating his injury.
Jitesh Sharma, acquired by RCB for Rs 11 crore in the 2025 IPL auction, brings valuable leadership experience to the role. He previously captained Punjab Kings in a match during the 2024 season, also against SRH. His dual role as a wicketkeeper and middle-order batter positions him strategically to oversee on-field dynamics effectively.
RCB, having secured a spot in the playoffs, is aiming for a top-two finish to gain a strategic advantage in the qualifiers. After Gujarat Titans' defeat against LSG, two wins will now seal the top spot for Bengaluru.
