RCB vs SRH: The stage is set for a blockbuster start to the Indian Premier League 2026 season as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament opener. The high-voltage clash at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium promises fireworks, given the venue's reputation for high-scoring encounters and batting-friendly conditions.
RCB enter the contest brimming with confidence after finally ending their title drought last season. With a well-balanced squad featuring experienced stars and explosive match-winners, they will look to begin their title defence on a strong note in front of their home crowd. Much will depend on their top order to set the tone, while their bowling unit will need to handle the pressure of defending totals at a venue known for short boundaries.

On the other hand, SRH come into the season eager to make a statement. Known for their aggressive brand of cricket and powerful batting lineup, they have the firepower to challenge RCB right from the outset.
The RCB vs SRH match will take place on Saturday, March 28.

In the opening match of the IPL, Kishan will arguably be one of the batsmen who will be gearing up to go at it from the word go. The left-hander who will be leading SRH in the absence of Pat Cummins had a phenomenal T20 World Cup and is coming into this year's IPL after becoming the second-highest run-scorer for India with 317 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 193.29.
He has carried that red-hot form forward, smashing 532 runs in 13 T20Is at an incredible strike rate of 207, including a century and four half-centuries. The left-hander had a decent knock in last year's IPL as well, scoring 354 runs in 13 innings, including a phenomenal 106 not out on his SRH debut against the Rajasthan Royals.
If RCB is playing in IPL, the list will be incomplete without the mention of Virat Kohli. The former Indian captain had a phenomenal season last year, scoring about 657 runs in 15 innings, taking his team to the finals.
Kohli remains the leader in the batting charts of the tournament with 8,661 IPL runs. Moreover, his good history against SRH of 805 runs in 24 innings qualifies him as one of the main threats in the first clash.
Rajat Patidar had a modest yet impactful IPL 2025 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, playing a key role in their maiden title triumph. Batting in the middle order, he often anchored the innings while accelerating when required. Patidar scored 312 runs at a strike rate of 143.78, and although he wasn't always in the spotlight, his timely contributions proved crucial, especially in pressure situations where RCB needed stability and partnerships.
The list will conclude with Abhishek Sharma, who has lit up the IPL stage for the past two years with the blitzkrieg that he brings to the pitch in back-to-back seasons (2024 and 2025). The left-hander was the 15th highest run-scorer in IPL 2025, including a record-shattering 141 off 55 balls against Punjab Kings, the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history.
Sharma also scored an important half-century in the final as well against New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 and would like to take inspiration from there. Known for dismantling attacks right from the powerplay, he could pose a serious threat to RCB in the opener, especially at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the short boundaries make six-hitting far easier for batters.
