"Really Happy With Two Points..." Ajinkya Rahane After KKR's 29-run Win Over GT Keeping Playoff Hopes Alive For Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders stayed in the IPL 2026 playoff race with a 29-run win over Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens, built on explosive batting from Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Cameron Green. Captain Ajinkya Rahane left the ground pleased, as Kolkata Knight Riders defended 247/2 and restricted Gujarat Titans to 218/4.
The result strengthened Kolkata Knight Riders' late push for a top-four finish in IPL 2026, while Gujarat Titans missed a chance to seal qualification. Shubman Gill’s side now needs results in the remaining league games, after failing to chase a huge target despite strong efforts from the top order.

KKR vs GT IPL 2026: Titans Fall Short Despite Gill-Buttler Heroics
Gujarat Titans replied with an aggressive chase, led first by captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. Buttler struck 57 from 35 balls, while Shubman Gill anchored with 85 from 49. Sai Sudharsan returned after briefly retiring hurt and added an unbeaten 53, but the Gujarat Titans still finished at 218/4, 29 runs behind.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers held their nerve under pressure once the field spread. Sunil Narine delivered another controlled spell, taking 2/29 and stalling the Guyana Titans during key overs. Saurabh Dubey also chipped in with one wicket, backing up the efforts of the senior spinners as the required rate kept climbing.
"Really Happy With Two Points..." Rahane On KKR's Win
Ajinkya Rahane highlighted how the top order made the job easier by attacking the Gujarat Titans’ bowling from the start. Rahane said, "Really happy with two points. The way we started with the bat, losing the toss, and then being put into bat. Amazing to see Finn Allen, Angkrish, and Cameron Green's knocks. That partnership. That intent. And every single time, putting quality bowlers under pressure. It was amazing. So credit goes to these batters."
The Kolkata Knight Riders captain spoke about the side’s preparation and simple plans during the IPL 2026 run-in. Rahane added, "Preparation always has been fantastic. I mean, the guys have been preparing really well. The talk was all about taking one game at a time. We know the scenario where we stand at the moment. So it's simple. And as I said earlier, cricket is a game. When you keep it really simple, don't make it complicated, it works the most for you. So today, batters backed their strength. As I said, the intent was amazing. Don't forget they have a quality bowling attack, all the pace bowlers, spinner as well. So it was amazing to see batters going out there and dominating every time," Rahane said.
Rahane also underlined the importance of belief within the bowling group, especially the spin attack. He explained, "And it's all about belief. It's all about confidence. Makes my job really easy. When you know Sunil Narine is in your team, and Varun was, he was struggling, but still, I mean, credit to him as well. He showed that courage to play this game. He had this sore foot. But when you have Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy in your team, I can't ask for more. I mean, I'm always happy. I can throw the ball any time from whichever end. And they're always there to deliver," Rahane said.
The victory kept Kolkata Knight Riders firmly in contention for the IPL 2026 playoffs and showcased both batting depth and bowling control. Gujarat Titans remain in the qualification race but must wait for later fixtures, after failing to close out a chase despite strong knocks from Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan.
