Johannesburg, Jan 18: South African captain AB de Villiers today smashed the fastest half century in One Day International cricket here at Wanderers Stadium, against West Indies. He went to blast a 31-ball 100, another world record.
De Villiers blazed his way to a 16-ball 50 to break Sanath Jayasuriya's record. The Sri Lanka had scored 50 off 17 balls against Pakistan in Singapore in 1996. The right-hander went berserk against the West Indies bowlers and struck an unbelievable 149 off just 44 balls (9x4, 16x6). South Africa posted a mammoth 439/2 in 50 overs, falling 4 runs short of team highest in ODIs.
The platform was set by South African openers Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw who both scored centuries. They put on 247 for the first wicket in 38.3 overs.
