Revealed! Gautam Gambhir Prefers Harshit Rana For THIS Long-Term Vision, Says 'Will Give Massive Boost'

Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana is steadily emerging as one of the most talked-about names in the national setup, not just for his bowling but also for his evolving role lower down the order.

The 23-year-old has found consistent backing from the selectors and coaching staff, drawing curiosity and at times criticism from experts. Yet, Rana remains unfazed, continuing to work behind the scenes to expand his skill set.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has been vocal about developing multi-dimensional cricketers, confirmed that Rana is part of a long-term plan designed to strengthen India's balance and depth in limited-overs cricket.

Speaking after India's emphatic nine-wicket victory over South Africa in Visakhapatnam, Gambhir revealed the intent behind Rana's inclusion.

"That's one of the reasons why we are trying to probably develop someone like Harshit, who can actually bat at 8 and contribute with a bat at No. 8," Gambhir said.

With a World Cup in South Africa scheduled two years from now, India's management is already thinking ahead. Gambhir stressed the need for a lineup featuring multiple seamers-without compromising on batting insurance.

"That's how we need to find the balance, because come South Africa in two years, we would be needing three proper seamers as well. If he can continue to develop as a bowling allrounder, it's going to give us a massive boost."

Rana has been part of a young pace trio alongside Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna in the recent ODI series. All three are still adjusting to ODI workloads, but Gambhir believes their progress is encouraging.

"All these three guys do not have a lot of experience under their belts... They've hardly played less than 15 ODIs, all these three bowlers, but they've done a fabulous job."

The series showcased fluctuating performances from both sides-South Africa chased 350+ in one match before being restricted to under 280 in the decider, thanks largely to India's improved execution.

While comparisons with Hardik Pandya's all-round value may be premature, Gambhir made it clear that patience will be key.

"If we can develop someone like Harshit at No. 8... it is going to give us the right balance as well... Let's see. I think it's still a long way."
