Richard Hadlee joins APL, angers New Zealand Cricket bosses

By Super Admin

Wellington, Apr.27 (ANI): New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan has described as "regrettable" living legend Richard Hadlee's decision to sign on as an executive consultant with the American Premier League (APL).

Hadlee confirmed his appointment to the Sunday Star-Times last night, but would not comment on the fact the International Cricket Council had urged its players and officials not to sign up for the league, which is unsanctioned.

Hadlee said there was "no need" to consult NZC, for whom he was a player and then a selector for decades.

Hadlee had "no comment" on the fact the league was unsanctioned.

However, Vaughan told the Star-Times: "It's regrettable he's aligned with an unsanctioned and unofficial circuit. It's certainly not preferable but he's got his life to lead."

The tournament wants to have six franchises and player auctions similar to the IPL. The APL is yet to receive a stamp of approval from the ICC, who has advised their member countries not to allow players to participate in the event.

Hadlee was hopeful the APL would get official sanction soon. (ANI)
