Rishabh Pant on Saturday (October 19) became only the fourth wicket-keeper in the history of Test cricket to get dismissed on 99 runs. The 27-year-old missed out on a well-deserving hundred by one run only.
Pant was dismissed for 99 off just 105 balls after a delivery from six-feet-six-inch tall William ORourke generated good bounce and crouched the southpaw for space before taking the edge and hitting the leg stump.

The dismissal stunned everyone including KL Rahul, who could not help himself and disdainfully crouched at the non-striker's end. The shell shocked fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru gathered themselves to give a standing ovation to Pant who partnered for 177 runs with Sarfaraz Khan and played a crucial role in helping India clear the 356-run first innings deficit.
Rishabh Pant joined the unlucky list of just four wicketkeeper-batters to be dismissed for an individual score of 99 runs in a Test innings. He joined the list consisting of Brendon McCullum, Jonny Bairstow and former India captain MS Dhoni.
Further, Rishabh Pant has also scored fifty-plus runs in each of his last five outings in the third innings of a Test match. He scored 109 in the third innings of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh in Chennai in September.

Also, Rishabh Pant equalled Farokh Engineer's record for most fifty-plus scores among India wicketkeeper-batters in Test cricket. Pant and Engineer are tied at 18 fifty-plus scores in 62 and 87 Test innings respectively. MS Dhoni is ahead of the duo with 39 fifty-plus scored in 144 innings.
