Rishabh Pant can move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the future and become MS Dhoni's successor, former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta has said. Notably, MS Dhoni is set to feature in his last IPL season for the CSK in 2024 season.
Deep Dasgupta has reckoned that Rishabh Pant is close to MS Dhoni, adding that the wicketkeeper-batter thinks like the former India captain and carries a positive thought process.

“Don’t be surprised if they get Rishabh Pant by IPL 2025. MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant are very close. Obviously, Rishabh adores MS, and MS also likes him very much. They spend a lot of time together. Their connection and Rishabh’s thinking are very similar, considering he is very attacking and positive. He’s always talking about winning and whatnot," Deep Dasgupta, who was himself a wicketkeeper-batter in his playing days, said during a recent interview.
CSK are on a lookout for a leader after their first experiment with Ravindra Jadeja failed in 2022. MS Dhoni took back the captaincy and led the the team to title win in 2023.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, one of the consistent performers for CSK over the years, is potentially being seen as the next leader of the Yellow Army. The Maharastra opener recently led India to gold medal win at the Asian Games 2023. He was also appointed India's T20I side vice-captain for the first three matches of the ongoing five-match series against Australia.
Pant is likely to make his professional cricket comeback with the IPL 2024. He has been out of action ever since his life-threatening car accident in December 2022. David Warner led Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2023, but Pant is expected to take back the captaincy in the IPL 2024 season. He was recently retained by the franchise.
