I wish he was Australian: Mitchell Marsh Commends Rishabh Pant's Inspiring Comeback

Rishabh Pant's remarkable return to cricket has deeply impressed Mitchell Marsh, who expressed admiration for the Indian cricketer. Marsh described Pant as a "ripping bloke" and wished he could have played for Australia.

Pant made a strong comeback to international cricket earlier this year in white-ball formats and recently showcased his readiness for red-ball cricket with a century against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Pant's journey back from a severe car accident in 2022 has been inspiring. Marsh praised Pant's positivity, competitiveness, and desire to win. "He’s a ripping bloke. I wish he was Australian. He’s obviously been through a lot over the last few years, and it’s been a hell of a comeback," Marsh told Star Sports.

"He’s a positive guy, still really young, and he loves winning. He’s highly competitive for someone who has the persona of being relaxed and always laughing and smiling. He’s got that big smile."

Pant's Performance Against Australia

In the upcoming five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series starting in Perth on November 22, Pant is expected to play a crucial role in India's batting line-up. In previous Test series against Australia, Pant excelled by scoring 624 runs in 12 innings at an average of 62.40, including one century and two half-centuries. His highest score against Australia is an unbeaten 159.

During the Brisbane Test in 2021, Pant's unbeaten 89 in the second innings led India to their first Test victory at the venue in 32 years, securing a 2-1 series win and retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australian opener Travis Head also praised Pant's abilities, stating that Pant's aggressive nature and work ethic would make him enjoyable to play alongside.

Challenges for Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will embark on his maiden tour of Australia as India's Test captain, carrying significant responsibility with the bat. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood acknowledged Rohit's skills, admitting that he finds him challenging to bowl to. "I find him quite tough to bowl to," Hazlewood said. "I think 'Gaza’ Nathan Lyon has had some good success against him, particularly in Australia."

Rohit has accumulated 408 runs in seven Tests in Australia at an average of 31.38 but is yet to score a century there. Hazlewood recalled instances when Rohit batted lower down the order before opening in recent matches. Despite facing new balls frequently, Rohit handles pace bowling exceptionally well.

The bounce and movement of Australian pitches do not seem to trouble Rohit, as he plays deliveries under his eyes with ample time. As both teams prepare for the upcoming series, players like Pant and Rohit are expected to be pivotal figures for India.
