The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its latest Test rankings for batters and bowlers on June 25, 2025, following India's defeat to England in the Leeds Test and the drawn Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Test in Galle.
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant stole the spotlight, soaring to a career-best seventh position among batters with 801 rating points, driven by his historic twin centuries (134 and 118) in Leeds.

Pant's performance made him only the second designated wicketkeeper in Test history, after Andy Flower, to score centuries in both innings of a match. His aggressive yet refined batting, showcasing improved defensive technique, surpassed MS Dhoni's record for the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper. Rising from eighth to seventh, Pant is now the highest-ranked wicketkeeper-batter, cementing his pivotal role in India's Test future, especially post the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
In the batters' rankings, England's Joe Root retained the top spot with 888 points, followed by Harry Brook (873) and Kane Williamson (867). India's Yashasvi Jaiswal held fourth with 851 points, while England's Ben Duckett jumped five places to eighth (710 points) after a match-defining 149 in Leeds. Shubman Gill, India's new Test captain, climbed five spots to 20th (784 points) after scoring 147, and Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim (28th) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (29th) made significant gains after strong performances in Galle.
Among bowlers, India's Jasprit Bumrah dominated at No. 1 with 907 points, reinforced by a five-wicket haul in Leeds. England's Josh Tongue surged 16 places to 64th with seven wickets, while Brydon Carse rose to 32nd. However, India's Ravindra Jadeja slipped three spots to 13th after a quiet outing.
Pant's rise, following his recovery from a 2022 car accident, highlights his resilience and flair. With young stars like Gill and Jaiswal also shining, India's Test squad looks promising despite the Leeds loss. As the England series continues, Pant's form will be key to India's fightback.
