Rohit Sharma marked his long-awaited return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy in unforgettable fashion, producing a breathtaking century for Mumbai after more than seven years away from the tournament.

Playing in the Elite Group C fixture against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on December 24, the Indian skipper rolled back the years with a stunning display of power-hitting.

Opening the innings, Rohit reached his hundred in just 62 balls, setting a new personal benchmark in List A cricket. In the process, he eclipsed his earlier fastest century of 63 deliveries, which had come against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup in Delhi. The knock reaffirmed why Rohit continues to be regarded as one of the most destructive batters in the 50-over format.

The 38-year-old went on to compile a majestic 155 from 94 balls, lacing his innings with 18 boundaries and nine towering sixes. His onslaught completely dismantled Sikkim's bowling attack and laid the foundation for Mumbai's emphatic eight-wicket victory. Beyond the match result, the innings carried significant historical value.

With this effort, Rohit equalled David Warner's long-standing world record for the most 150-plus scores in List A cricket. Both batters now have nine scores of 150 or more in the format. While Warner achieved the feat across ODIs and domestic appearances for New South Wales, Rohit's tally includes eight such scores for India in ODIs and one for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The innings also added another milestone to Rohit's illustrious career. At 38 years and 238 days, he became the second-oldest player to score a century in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Only Bengal's Anustup Majumdar, who crossed the 39-year mark during the 2023-24 season, sits above him on that list.

Rohit's knock was not just a reminder of his enduring class but also a statement of intent ahead of upcoming international commitments.
