Rohit Sharma Complained to BCCI Over Sunil Gavaskar Criticism? Know Details

By MyKhel Staff

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction with former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar's critical remarks about his recent form in Australia. According to sources cited by CricBlogger, Rohit raised the issue during a meeting with the BCCI top brass, alleging that Gavaskar's comments were "too negative" and added undue pressure on him.

Gavaskar, known for his straightforward analysis, had earlier stated in The Sydney Morning Herald that Rohit was "out of his depth" and lauded his decision to step aside from the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) as "brave."

Gavaskar further speculated that if Rohit failed to deliver in Melbourne and Sydney, he might voluntarily step down before the selectors intervened. A source revealed that Rohit felt Gavaskar's remarks were unwarranted and impacted his confidence.

"Rohit felt that it was not necessary for Gavaskar to criticize him in that fashion, and that's why he complained to the BCCI about him," the source said. Gavaskar's sharp critiques have not been limited to Rohit alone.

Over the years, he has voiced strong opinions about several top Indian cricketers, including Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. In the past, he called Pant's aggressive batting "stupid" and even suggested that Jasprit Bumrah should lead the team during the Australia tour, a stance also shared by current head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Rohit, who had a forgettable run in the recent Test series against Australia, managed only 31 runs across three matches, which further intensified scrutiny around his form. Notably, his struggles continued during his Ranji Trophy return for Mumbai, where he scored just 3 and 28 runs in two innings against Jammu and Kashmir.

Future Concerns Amid Criticism

The 37-year-old opener's poor run with the bat has raised concerns about his future in Test cricket. With an average of just 10.93 in the 2024/25 first-class season, critics argue that his place in the red-ball format is under serious threat.

Neither the BCCI nor Rohit Sharma has officially commented on the alleged complaint against Gavaskar. However, the ongoing debate highlights the mounting pressure on Rohit as he looks to regain his form ahead of India's crucial upcoming fixtures.
