Rohit Sharma falls Cheaply at Ranji Trophy Return - Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal follow suit

It hasn't been a rosy return for India captain Rohit Sharma in the Ranji Trophy as the Mumbai batter fell cheaply against Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday (January 23).

Rohit, who has made a return to domestic cricket after almost 10 years, was dismissed early in the first day of the match at the Bandra Kurla Complex.

Rohit Sharma falls Cheaply at Ranji Trophy Return - Shubman Gill Yashasvi Jaiswal follow suit

A decent number of crowd filtered into the stadium as additional seating arrangements were also made by the hosts, but it was an underwhelming outing for Rohit who departed in the first hour of the match.

Rohit was troubled early by pacer Umar Nazir as the Jammu & Kashmir bowler got a maiden over in his first encounter against the India captain. The 37-year-old failed to break the shackles against both pacers who troubled him from the get go, creating doubt with their accuracy and bounce.

Rohit's struggle came to an abrupt end as an attempted pull struck the edge and ballooned up. Jammu and Kashmir captain Paras Dogra made no mistake to catch it, signalling the departure of Rohit Sharma, who could just manage 3 runs from 19 deliveries. Rohit's wicket has put Mumbai in trouble as they have lost both openers after 12 runs on the board.

Yashasvi Jaiswal dismissed Early

Earlier in the same match, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by an excellent Auqib Nabi. The J&K pacer set the southpaw up superbly with some outswingers and then a sharp inswinging delivery caught Jaiswal at the crease as the batter departed after just 4 runs in 8 deliveries.

Shubman Gill fails to impress

Elsewhere, Shubman Gill also failed to make amends to his form as the Punjab batter managed to score just 4 runs upon his return to domestic cricket. Gill hit a boundary but then failed to add to his tally as Abhilash Shetty got his wicket. Punjab are in deep trouble as they are 14 for 3 against Karnataka in their respective match.
