During the India vs Bangladesh ICC T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 1, a fan invaded the pitch to meet Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma.

The incident occurred during the second innings, highlighting the immense admiration and fervor that Sharma commands among cricket enthusiasts. The fan breached security to get close to the skipper, but was promptly escorted out by security officials.

India comfortably won the match by 60 runs, thanks to a stellar performance by Rishabh Pant and a solid bowling display. Pant, making his first international appearance since December 2022 after recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident, played a crucial role. His 32-ball half-century, which included four fours and four sixes, helped India set a formidable total of 182 for five.

Opting to bat first, India had a shaky start with Sanju Samson falling for a single run. However, captain Rohit Sharma (23) and Rishabh Pant steadied the innings. Pant's aggressive batting, highlighted by three sixes in one over off Shakib Al Hasan, brought momentum to the Indian innings. He retired out after reaching his fifty, paving the way for Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to continue the onslaught.

Yadav contributed a quick 31 from 18 deliveries, while Pandya's unbeaten 40 from 23 balls, featuring four sixes, propelled India to 182. Mahedi Hasan was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, with economical figures of one for 22 from his four overs.

Bangladesh's response was shaky from the start. They were reduced to 10 for three in the fourth over, with Arshdeep Singh taking two early wickets. The situation worsened as they slipped to 41 for five by the ninth over. Despite a valiant effort by Shakib Al Hasan (28) and Mahmudullah (40 retired), who put together a 70-run partnership for the sixth wicket, the team fell short.

Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh were the pick of the bowlers for India, both claiming two wickets each. Dube's two wickets in the final over sealed the match for India, restricting Bangladesh to 122 for nine.

India's comprehensive win in the warm-up match sets a positive tone for their T20 World Cup campaign. They will play three out of their four group-stage matches in New York, starting with their first game against Ireland on June 5. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will look to bounce back in their opening match against Sri Lanka on June 7.

Scores in Brief: India 182/5 in 20 overs (Rishabh Pant 53, Hardik Pandya 40 not out; Mahmadullah 1/16, Mahedi Hasan 1/22); Bangladesh 122/9 in 20 overs (Mahmudullah 40; Shivam Dube 2/13, Arshdeep Singh 2/12)
