Rohit Sharma Gearing Up For ODI Return! Picture With Abhishek Nayar Goes Viral

India's ODI skipper Rohit Sharma is working hard on his fitness ahead of his return to competitive cricket, and his latest Instagram post has grabbed plenty of attention. The 38-year-old shared a picture from a gym in Mumbai, where he was seen in conversation with his former Mumbai teammate and ex-India assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar.

Rohit, who announced his retirement from Test cricket during IPL 2025, has been away from the red-ball scene and was not part of the recent England tour. After stepping away from the longest format, he has been enjoying time with his family and was even present at the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, witnessing India's series draw from the stands.

Now, the focus is firmly back on getting match-ready for the ODI format. Rohit has previously trained under Nayar's guidance, working on both his batting technique and fitness regime. Interestingly, Nayar is currently the head coach of Women's Premier League side UP Warriorz but continues to be a trusted mentor for the India captain.

While Rohit sharpens his game in Mumbai, his long-time teammate Virat Kohli has been spotted in London, honing his skills in indoor nets alongside Gujarat Titans assistant coach Naseem Amin. Like Rohit, Kohli hasn't played competitive cricket since June, and both stalwarts are eyeing a strong comeback in India's ODI series against Australia in October.

Originally, the duo was set to return in the ODI series against Bangladesh this August. However, with that series postponed to next year, their first assignment back will now be Down Under in Australia.

India has a packed ODI calendar leading up to the 2027 World Cup. To maintain form and fitness, reports suggest that the BCCI and selectors could encourage Rohit and Kohli to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy - India's premier domestic one-day tournament - scheduled for December-January.

With plenty of cricket on the horizon, fans will be hoping that Rohit's intense training with Nayar is the first step toward another memorable chapter in his already illustrious ODI career.
