Rohit Sharma gets nostalgic while reacting to Shikhar Dhawan's retirement news: 'The Ultimate Jatt'

India captain Rohit Sharma reacted to Shikhar Dhawan's retirement on Sunday (August 25), and thanked him for making his 'job easier from the other end'. Notably, the duo former one of the most successful opening pairs for India in ODI cricket.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma opened in 117 innings together, scoring 5193 runs at an average of 45.15. They stitched 18 hundred-run stands, and partnered for fifty or more runs 17 times.

The partnership is fourth best among openers, and eighth in the overall list of highest runs scored by a batting pair in ODIs. Dhawan and Rohit opened together in the post Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir era, and ensured strong starts for Team India.

Rohit Sharma got nostalgic while reacting to news of Shikhar Dhawan's retirement, and also called him 'The Ultimate Jatt'. Here's what the 37-year-old wrote.

"From sharing rooms to sharing lifetime memories on the field. You always made my job easier from the other end. THE ULTIMATE JATT," Rohit Sharma wrote in his X post which also had four pictures of Dhawan and him.

Earlier today, Virat Kohli also posted an emotional farewell message for Dhawan. Kohli termed the 38-year-old southpaw as one of the most dependable openers to play for India.

"Shikhar @SDhawan25 from your fearless debut to becoming one of India's most dependable openers, you've given us countless memories to cherish. Your passion for the game, your sportsmanship and your trademark smile will be missed, but your legacy lives on. Thank you for the memories, unforgettable performances and always leading with your heart. Wishing you the best in your next innings, off the field Gabbar!" Virat Kohli wrote on X.

Shikhar Dhawan finished his career as the 10th highest run-scorer for India in ODI cricket. Overall, the 38-year-old played 34 Tests, 167 ODI and 68 T20Is for India. He scored 2315 runs in Test cricket at an average of 40.61, 6793 runs in ODIs at an average of 44.11, and 1759 runs in T20I cricket at an average of 27.92. Shikhar Dhawan hit seven hundreds in Tests and 17 in ODI format.
