Is Rohit Sharma the right choice as Captain for T20 World Cup? Sourav Ganguly gives massive verdict

Ever since the conclusion of the World Cup 2023, the captaincy turmoil has been a massive taking point in Indian cricket.

There have been ample suggestions that Rohit Sharma may well be giving away his captaincy from the limited overs format and concentrate more on leading the team in the Test format.

Rohit Sharma

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has led the Indian team in several T20I series since the last T20 World Cup in 2022, but as another World T20 is on the horizon, the Indian team is heading to the tournament with Rohit Sharma as the captain again.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the veteran batter will be leading the Indian team in the Caribbean and USA for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya, who has had a taste of captaincy, will have to wait at least till June to have the T20 leadership baton from Rohit Sharma.

And former India captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly concurs with the decision. Ganguly, in a recent chat with Mid Day, stated that picking up Rohit Sharma as the India captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup is the right decision.

"Rohit Sharma is the right choice as India captain for the T20 World Cup. The way he led the Indian team and won 10 matches in the 50-over World Cup is still fresh in our memory. So, Rohit was the best choice," Ganguly said.

The influx of youth players in the T20 format has been a long debate, but we are set to witness the veterans such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Since the victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, India haven't won the title and would be desperate to end their duck in this edition.
