An injury forced veteran batter Rohit Sharma out of the Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (April 4) at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Young all-rounder Raj Bawa took Rohit's place in the eleven as Hardik Pandya's side failed to carry their winning momentum, going down by 12 runs against LSG for their third defeat of the season.

Hardik's maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and Suryakumar Yadav's fifty went in vain for Mumbai Indians, but the main talking point from the game was Tilak Varma being recalled retired out after the young batter's struggle to get going in the chase of 204.
Rohit may have also not been amongst the runs, but Mumbai Indians did seem to miss him as Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton, who opened the innings in his absence, fell early in the run chase. So, MI will be keen to get their stalwart and former captain back soon. Will he return for MI's next match?
Rohit Sharma injury update: While there is no clarity on his availability for the next match, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawadene provided an update on why the star batter missed the match
"Rohit got a hit on his knee in the IT (iliotibial) band & he tried to bat yesterday. He couldn't put any weight on it - so, again he came & did a fitness test to try. It was discomfort for him to bat, put weight on that. So that's why we precautioned, we thought, give him a few more days to try and get through that," Jayawardene said at the post-match press conference.
Going by Jayawardene's statement, there is a chance that Rohit returns to fitness before their next match and could feature in the Mumbai Indians' home clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (April 7).
If he does miss the RCB match, Rohit is very likely to be fit and ready for the subsequent game against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as the game is a good week away and is scheduled to be held on Sunday (April 13).
