Punjab Kings' middle-order batter Shashank Singh has expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma, calling him his 'dream captain'.
Despite gearing up to play under Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2025, Shashank made it clear that if given a choice, he would love to play under Rohit, whom he described as a captain who backs his players and keeps the dressing room atmosphere lighthearted.

Shashank, who made waves in IPL 2024 with his aggressive yet calculated knocks for Punjab Kings, heaped praise on Rohit's leadership style. He recalled his experience of sharing the dressing room with him during his time with the Mumbai domestic team and how he was drawn to Rohit's sharp cricketing brain and effortless camaraderie with teammates, especially the younger ones.
Rohit Sharma has a monumental popularity among the new generation cricketers. Often the stump-mic catches his antics with the younger players, and off the field, Rohit behaves as a mentor and elder brother to them. And for Shashank, it was Rohit's ability to instill confidence in his players while maintaining a fun-loving approach on the field.
The 33-year-old all-rounder didn't hold back in expressing his desire to one day play under Rohit's captaincy.
"Everyone says that he [Rohit] backs his players to the hilt; gives them plenty of chances. He is a very smart captain. His one-liners (on the field) are also quite funny. If you ask me one captain I would want to play under, it will be Rohit Sharma," Shashank said while speaking at the YouTube show of Shubhankar Mishra.
"He is from Bombay. I have also batted with him once. He was not the captain back then. I want to play under his leadership, that's my wish," he added.
Shashank will be playing under Shreyas Iyer's leadership for Punjab Kings in the upcoming IPL season after getting retained by PBKS for Rs 5.5 crore.
