Even as pressure has mounted on senior players to play domestic cricket after a disastrous Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma is yet to inform his state team Mumbai whether he will be available or not, sources told MyKhel.
The Indian captain, who came under the scanner for his poor batting performances in Australia with just 31 runs in three Tests and was even dropped from the playing XI for the fifth Test in Sydney, is expected to play Mumbai's penultimate Ranji Trophy league against Jammu and Kashmir starting on January 23.

Sources said that Rohit is perhaps waiting for the team announcement for the England ODI series and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 before taking the decision whether to take part in the Ranji Trophy game or not.
Along with Rohit, there is also considerable pressure on Virat Kohli to play domestic cricket for Delhi and even he is yet to confirm his participation. But Rohit's case is different because he was dropped from the team despite being the captain while Kohli, despite being in bad form, wasn't dropped. The Mumbaikar had made it clear that he wasn't dropped and that he had stepped down due to poor form.
Therefore, Rohit's participation in domestic competition is a must, if not for a show but certainty for his reputation. It is also reliably learnt that the Mumbai Ranji team is eagerly waiting for Rohit to join as he was seen in the nets with the Mumbai team and even released videos of his physical training.
The 37-year-old India cricketer has been training heavily in Mumbai to find his rhythm amid criticism and backlash over his form. The right-handed batter was also spotted running in the BCK Park in Mumbai.
