Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was reportedly planning to declare his retirement following the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne. However, he ultimately reversed his decision, which appears to have caused dissatisfaction for Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.
After scoring only 31 runs across five innings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and suffering six consecutive losses as captain, Rohit Sharma decided to step down as per a report by TOI.

However, before the New Year Test in Sydney, he had a change of heart, a decision that is believed to have displeased Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. Rohit did not play in the final Test, which India lost to concede the series 3-1, and reports suggest that tensions between him and Gambhir remain unresolved.
It is to believed that Rohit made this huge u-turn following intervention from outside 'well-wishers'.
"Rohit had made up his mind after MCG. Had his well-wishers from the outside did not force him to change his mind, we could have seen another retirement in Australia," a source told TOI.
Several reports suggest that the coach and captain were at odds over several decisions during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This apparent discord became noticeable during the pre-match press briefing in Sydney when Gautam Gambhir was questioned about Rohit's inclusion in the playing XI. The Indian head coach responded by stating that the final call would depend on the pitch and match conditions.
As the Test season is over for now, the main focus will be now on the Champions Trophy. This would be Gambhir's first-ever assignment as head coach as far as big-ticket events are concerned. It will be Rohit's first major tournament after leading the side to a T20 World Cup victory back in June.
If the Men in Blue want to win another ICC trophy again, the coach and the captain should have proper communication and clarity that would eventually help in assisting the entire side to excel.
