Rohit Sharma's mother skipped a doctor's appointment to attend her son's most treasureable moment on Thursday (July 4) when Team India celebrated the T20 World Cup victory in front of a packed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Rohit and Co defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final last week in Barbados to end Team India's long wait for an ICC trophy and a World Cup win.

After a few days delay due to Hurricane Beryl, Indian team arrived in the country with the trophy to raptarous welcome from the supporters in Delhi and then when evening came lakhs assembled in the streets of Mumbai for the open bus parade to greet the players.
As the celebration continued in the iconic venue - Wankhede Stadium, where the Indian team was felicitated, Rohit and his mother shared an emotional moment in the president's box.
Despite being surrounded by media and fans, Poornima, who was excited to meet her son after more than a month's time, hugged and showered kisses to her son with the adorable video instantly going viral on social media.
Later, in an interview with Indian Express, Rohit's mother revealed that she was not feeling well and missed a doctor's appointment to witness the significant moment at the Wankhede Stadium.
"I was not feeling well today and had a doctor's appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day. I can't express my happiness. Look at the cheering. I have never experienced this kind of atmosphere," Poornima was quoted as saying by India Express.
"The amount of love he is getting is because of his hard work and dedication. I'm the happiest mother today. What more can I ask now! This day won't come again in life. As he was taking the lap of honour, it was an emotional moment as he has been playing for a day like this"
Poornima also revealed that Rohit had told her about his intentions to retire from the shortest format before the tournament and she had wished him to "try to win".
"I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win," she added.
