Mumbai's Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir at the Bandra Kurla Complex Ground saw Indian captain Rohit Sharma stepping up off the field, delivering an inspiring pep talk to his teammates before they defended a target of 205.
A video of Rohit's motivational words in the team huddle, alongside captain Ajinkya Rahane, has since gone viral on social media. Although Rohit is not leading the side, with Rahane retaining the captaincy, his presence in the dressing room has been a major boost for Mumbai.

Speaking about Rohit's impact before the match, Rahane said, "Rohit has always been relaxed. Even playing at the international level, his character is similar. His attitude is pretty much relaxed. He knows his game really well so, no one has to tell him what he needs to do."
Returning to the Ranji Trophy after a decade, Rohit had a forgettable outing with the bat. In the first innings, he managed just three runs from 19 balls before falling to pacer Umar Nazir, who took five wickets to bowl Mumbai out for a mere 120. Mumbai faced an early collapse, being reduced to 47/7 before Shardul Thakur's crucial 51 helped them add some respectability to the total.
In the second innings, Rohit adopted a more aggressive approach, scoring 28 off 35 balls, including three sixes and two fours. However, his stay was cut short by J&K pacer Yudhvir Singh. Mumbai once again found themselves in trouble at 101/7, but a stunning 173-run partnership between Thakur (113*) and Tanush Kotian (58*) helped them post 274/7, setting a target of 205 for J&K.
Shardul Thakur Shines Again
Thakur, who had earlier scored a fighting half-century in the first innings, played a match-defining knock in the second, scoring an unbeaten 113 off 119 balls with 17 boundaries. His partnership with Kotian ensured Mumbai remained in the fight.
At lunch on Day 3, J&K were 85/1, with Shubham Khajuria (28) and Vivrant Sharma (27) at the crease. Mohit Avasthi provided Mumbai with their only breakthrough, dismissing Yawer Hassan for 24.
Rohit, who is likely to play just one Ranji game before joining the Indian squad for the ODI series against England starting February 6, may not have delivered with the bat, but his leadership and experience remain invaluable to the Mumbai squad.
