India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma has resumed rigorous training sessions, focusing on white-ball cricket ahead of the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Following a disappointing run in the Test arena during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit is back in action, working towards regaining form and fitness. Training alongside Hardik Pandya in Mumbai, the India skipper is leaving no stone unturned as he eyes redemption in the 50-over format.

The sessions, conducted at Reliance Corporate Park, Navi Mumbai, have seen Rohit practising his trademark late cuts, pull shots, and big hits. Videos of the skipper’s intense nets have gone viral online, showcasing him smashing spinners for sixes.
Pandya, meanwhile, bowled to Rohit during the session, providing valuable practice as both players gear up for the Champions Trophy and potential ODI assignments against England.
Rohit’s recent struggles with the bat in Test cricket have drawn widespread criticism, with the opener managing just 31 runs in three matches against Australia and missing the final Test. His lean patch has raised questions about his ability to perform in high-pressure situations. However, the Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on 19 February 2025, offers the perfect platform for the skipper to bounce back.
Rohit’s presence in the ODI series against England, starting on 6 February, is yet to be confirmed. Reports suggest selectors might rest senior players, including Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, but Rohit’s recent training sessions hint at his eagerness to feature.
Hardik Pandya’s regular domestic appearances have kept him in form, while Rohit’s focus remains on regaining his rhythm. Rohit’s last competitive white-ball game was over six months ago, making these practice sessions crucial for his readiness. As the captain, his form will be pivotal to India’s success in the Champions Trophy, where he aims to lead from the front.
Sources indicate that India’s ODI squad for the England series and Champions Trophy will be announced on January 18 or 19. Both squads are expected to overlap, ensuring consistency in preparations.
With Rohit Sharma at the helm, India will look to reclaim its dominance in the 50-over format. The Champions Trophy holds special significance as India aims to end its ICC trophy drought. While Rohit works on his game in Mumbai, the rest of the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will hold a three-day training camp in Kolkata before their T20I series against England starting on January 22.
Rohit’s return to form will not only bolster India’s batting lineup but also inspire confidence among teammates. As he sharpens his skills in the nets, fans eagerly anticipate his leadership in what could be a defining moment in his career.
