Rohit Sharma record vs Pakistan: How has India captain fared against arch-rivals in T20 World Cup

Rohit Shama kicked off his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a fifty against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June. The India captain would be hoping for another handy outing for his team at the same venue against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, June 9.

India and Pakistan will be up against each other in the much-awaited Group A encounter, and a win for either of the teams would give them a big psychological boost in the rest of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma would be very well aware of the fact, and would look to give his best in what could be his last World Cup outing against Pakistan. The next T20 World Cup has been scheduled for 2026 and the chances of the 37-year-old's participation in it is highly doubtful.

The right-hand opener is aiming his first-ever World Cup win as a captain, and would like to leave no stones unturned against Pakistan. He looked off-coloured in IPL 2024, and his first outing in T20 World Cup 2024 also looked scratchy even though he hit a fifty.

A glittery knock against Pakistan could do wonders to the form and confidence of Rohit Sharma. What should also motivate him is the fact that he hasn't really done well against Pakistan in T20Is.

Rohit has played a total of 11 T20I matches against Pakistan and scored 114 runs at an average of 14.25, and a strike rate of 118.75. He hasn't hit a single fifty, and got out for duck twice.

Rohit Sharma record vs Pakistan in T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma, one of the only two players to feature in all the nine editions of the T20 World Cup, has played six matches in the ICC showpiece event against Pakistan. In these six T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan only 68 runs have come off his bat at an average of 17.

Rohit Sharma will have the onus of giving a good start to his team on a very tricky New York pitch. A high-scoring innings will not only improve his T20I numbers against Pakistan but also help India win their match comfortably. Babar Azam's Pakistan are already under a lot of pressure after losing their T20 World Cup 2024 opener against the USA on Thursday, June 6. Another defeat will make it really difficult for them to qualify for the Super Eight round.
