Rohit Sharma reveals he isn't staying with Mumbai Indians squad during home matches: 'Just going an hour before'

Rohit Sharma has revealed that he isn't staying with Mumbai Indians squad during their home matches in the ongoing IPL 2024. Rohit, the former captain of the Mumbai Indians, said he was staying at his home, and joining the team just an hour before their matches at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians played four consecutive home matches from April 1 to April 14. Rohit Sharma made the maximum use of the opportunity by spending a lot of family time, and leaving home just an hour before the team meetings ahead of the matches.

'I have got a lot of time on my hands these days. Just spending a lot of time with my family. Staying at home actually. Last four games we (Mumbai Indians) played in Mumbai (at the Wankhede Stadium), I was at home. And just going an hour before we get together as a team for a little team meeting. So it's been good, a little different but it's been good,' Rohit Sharma revealed on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

A video of Rohit Sharma had recently gone viral in which he was seen arriving at the airport in his private car to join his teammates for an away game.

Explaining Mumbai Indians' decision to give Hardik Pandya the captaincy, head coach Mark Boucher had said that management wanted the superstar cricketer to enjoy pressure-free time away from the limelight of captaincy, spend time with him and focus entirely on his batting.

"He is still going to captain India, that hype is going to be there. But when he steps into the IPL maybe just taking that extra bit of pressure off him as a captain, maybe we get the best out of Rohit Sharma," Boucher said on the Banter With The Boys podcast before the start of IPL 2024.

"We see him playing with a nice smile on his face, spending a bit of time with the beautiful family he has got. There's no easy way to do it," he had added.

Seems like Rohit Sharma is doing exactly the same. The 36-year-old has scored 297 runs in seven matches at an average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 164.08. Only Riyan Parag (318) and Virat Kohli (361) have scored more runs than him in the IPL 2024.
