Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the T20 format after leading India to their 2nd T20 World Cup title on Saturday (June 29).

After the historic afternoon in Barbados, Rohit announced that he would also be leaving the shortest format of international cricket at the post-match press conference.

"This was my last game as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup," Rohit said after winning the final.

The emotions of the India captain were palpable as his frantic celebration and tears after the victory melted the hearts and watered the eyes of many. And as he has always maintained, the India captain spoke about his indomitable will to win the World Cup.

"I wanted this badly. Very hard to put in words. It was a very emotional moment for me. I was very desperate for this title in my life. Happy that we eventually crossed the line," he concluded.

It has been yet another swansong for an India legend. Rohit finished his T20I career as the highest run-scorer in the format. He also became the only Indian player to win two T20 World Cup titles. It all started for him in the 2007 World Cup and a circle seems to have completed with his departure in the format.
