Former India player Piyush Chawla shared a curious anecdote about India captain Rohit Sharma recently.
Rohit Sharma has been a terrific leader for India. The Mumbai-born recently lifted the T20 World Cup title, and has been a prolific captain for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Apart from his on-field success as captain, Rohit is highly regarded for his off-field gestures.

Rohit Sharma, as a human, is massively admired by his colleagues. From youngsters to former cricketers, everyone has given a distinctive certificate to Rohit for his humane and close-to-heart approaches.
And in a recent podcast, Piyush Chawla opened up Rohit Sharma's unwavering quality as a captain during his stay with Mumbai Indians. Chawla said they reached at such a comfort level that one day Rohit called him late at night and started to demonstrate plans to dismiss David Warner.
"I've played so much cricket with him that we've reached a comfort level. We sit off the field as well. Once, at 2:30 in the night, he texted me and asked, "you up?" He drew a field on paper and discussed with me about potentially dismissing Warner. Even at that time, he was thinking about how he could get the best out of me," Chawla was quoted as saying to YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra's podcast.
Chawla also spoke highly of Rohit's captaincy and said that the India captain is more of a leader, who gives his players all the freedom.
"There's a captain, then there's a leader. He isn't a captain, he is a leader. Whether it was 2023 ODI WC, or the 2024 T20 WC, the way he batted, he sets the tone in such a way that he made it easy for next batters. He's a true leader. He gives you a free hand," Chawla added.
Rohit Sharma will be leading India in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19.
