Rohit Sharma: Three IPL Teams Who Would Want Former Mumbai Indians Captain to Play For Them In Future

Rohit Sharma was removed as the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain on Friday, December 16. The 36-year-old, who has led Mumbai Indians in each of the five titles won by the franchise, was replaced by Hardik Pandya.

Hardik Pandya was traded in from Gujarat Titans (GT) in late November. It has been reported that becoming Mumbai Indians (MI) captain was Hardik's condition to comeback to the franchise he left ahead of IPL 2022.

Rohit Sharma being removed as the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) has shocked millions. In fact, Mumbai Indians Instagram following came down by four million after Rohit Sharma was removed as the team's captain.

The swashbuckling batter would be seen playing under Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024, but will he continue doing that in the following edition of the cash-rich league? Or will Rohit Sharma leave Mumbai Indians and play for some other team towards the end of his career? Here are the top three IPL teams who would want Rohit Sharma to play for them in future.

Three teams Rohit Sharma can play for in future

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): Rohit Sharma started his IPL career way back in 2008 (the inaugural season) for a Hyderabad-based franchise Deccan Chargers. He won the title with them in the 2009 season which saw him score 362 runs and pick 11 wickets including a hat-trick. He won the Emerging Player award with them as well.

Further, Rohit Sharma's mother hails from Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad was the capital city of the state before Telangana state came into existence in 2014. Therefore Rohit Sharma's connection with the city and the region is old and deep.

Deccan Chargers is a defunct franchise now but the existing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) would love to have Rohit Sharma as part of the Orange Army. They have been waiting for an IPL title since 2016 and have changed a number of captains in the quest. A superstar Indian captain will be a welcome news for them.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): The idea of watching Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play for the same IPL team will tickle many bones. This would come as one of the biggest developments in the history of IPL.

RCB already enjoys a massive fan following and the arrival of Rohit Sharma would take that to a next level. The viewership records of RCB matches would be sure to reach new heights. From the marketing and branding perspective, RCB would emerge as the unchallenged winners.

RCB are also a team not shy of investing in players in their last thirties, their current captain 39-year-old Faf du Plessis is an example. Also, who knows if Rohit Sharma is the one going to win RCB's first IPL title!

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Rohit Sharma has a special connection with Kolkata and Eden Gardens. His first Test match where he scored 177 runs in his debut innings to his 264 - the highest individual score in an innings of ODI cricket history - all of them came at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

KKR have also been waiting for an IPL trophy since 2014. They have tried and tested numerous captains to deliver them their third trophy, but the wait continues. Gautam Gambhir was the one who won both the trophies for the franchise.

The likes of Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik have also tried but failed to do the job for KKR. The franchise has also wanted to attract a big Indian superstar to the franchise. Sourav Ganguly and Gautam Gambhir have led the team in the past, and addition of Rohit Sharma to the list will increase the legacy of KKR in the IPL leaps and bounds.
