Rohit Sharma to remain captain if India fail in Champions Trophy 2025? Mohammed Kaif gives huge verdict

By MyKhel Staff

Rohit Sharma will be leading India in the Champions Trophy 2025 amid colossal doubt over his future.

The India captain has struggled in the past few months with the bat, which raised his future both as the skipper and batter in the team. After a dismal outing in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit's form finally resurrected in the ODIs against England, where he raised to score a scintillating century.

Although the century silenced the critics for now, a bad outing in the Champions Trophy will definitely raise the voices again. The 37-year-old has seemed confident with his batting and has shrugged off retirement rumours, but ramifications can be damaging for the star player if he and team India fail to shine in the ICC tournament.

Amid this, Rohit has received a staunch supporter of his credentials in Mohammed Kaif. The former India player believes the Mumbai-born player must continue as captain irrespective of India's Champions Trophy fortunes.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif said, "What Rohit Sharma has done as a captain is not everyone's cup of tea. He led his team to the final of the 2023 World Cup. We haven't played a lot of ODI cricket after that. God forbid, even if India play badly, the coaches may be in trouble but not Rohit Sharma. In Tests, you may look for a chance, but in ODIs, there is no question about his place."

Kaif also addressed the fact that Rohit's status as captain must remain unquestioned till the 2027 ODI World Cup.

"He has been in great form, hit a century and has captained the team really well. He has a fantastic ODI record if we look at the winning percentage. So, I feel even if the Indian team performs badly, Rohit Sharma will remain safe and continue playing till 2027 World Cup," he added.
