Rohit Sharma To Resume Training With Mumbai Team From July 2nd Week: Report

Rohit Sharma is all set to return to the nets, with reports suggesting he will begin training with the Mumbai team from the second week of July. After announcing his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, the veteran opener has shifted his focus solely to the ODI format at the international level.

The 38-year-old stepped away from red-ball cricket, marking the end of a significant chapter in his illustrious career.

Following his decision, Shubman Gill was handed the reins of the Indian Test team, currently leading the side against England in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy - a newly introduced title commemorating two of the game's greats.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who also retired from the longest format around the same time, has been on a break as well. With both stalwarts opting to wind down their commitments, they've been enjoying family time during this period away from competitive action. Rohit was recently spotted holidaying with his family, while Kohli is believed to be in London.

Though both players were expected to return for the now uncertain Bangladesh ODI series, political tensions have reportedly put that tour on hold. This means fans might have to wait longer before witnessing the duo back in action in India colours.

As per several reports via Sports Tiger, Rohit is likely to link up with the Mumbai domestic setup next week to begin preparations. While there's still ambiguity over India's immediate ODI schedule, his return to training hints at a gradual build-up towards upcoming fixtures.

According to the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP), India are scheduled to tour Australia for a white-ball series later this year in October-November. That assignment could mark the comeback of both Rohit and Kohli in the ODI format, with a tour to South Africa expected to follow.

With Rohit now prioritising ODIs in the twilight of his career, fans will be eager to see how the seasoned campaigner paces his comeback and what lies ahead in the final stretch of his international journey.
