Rohit Sharma may finally be on the verge of addressing a chronic hamstring issue that has plagued him for nearly five years.
With no bilateral ODI series scheduled until India hosts one in October, the senior opener and ODI captain has a rare window for medical intervention, one that he may choose to utilise for a much-needed surgery on his left hamstring.

According to sources close to the matter, the injury has been a lingering concern for years, but the demands of leading India across formats left Rohit with little time for extended recovery. That phase, however, appears to be nearing its end. With his T20I and Test futures uncertain after the IPL 2025, Rohit now has a period to address his injuries and fitness concerns.
"If Rohit wants to play the 2027 World Cup, this is the right time to get the surgery done. He has been putting it off for years because of leadership duties, but now the schedule allows him to recover without rushing back," a source close to Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying by CricBlogger.
While neither the BCCI nor Rohit have issued an official statement yet, the timing suggests a strategic recalibration, potentially setting the stage for him to focus exclusively on ODIs and lead India's charge into the next World Cup cycle, fully fit and re-energized.
The situation has grown increasingly untenable. Rohit's appearances during the IPL 2025 raised fresh concerns about his physical condition. Frequently seen off the field during Mumbai Indians' innings, his restricted mobility and tentative strokeplay have hinted at the toll the injury has taken.
With the ODI calendar light and Rohit's importance to the format undisputed, this may be his best and perhaps last opportunity to undergo surgery, recuperate fully, and return with singular focus in the ODI format.
The veteran's form and fitness will be crucial for his intended World Cup 2027 quest, and treating the hamstring issue will be a big step.
