Rohit Sharma has been nothing short of a marvel when it comes to batting and captaincy in the World Test Championship (WTC). While he called the shots quite well as a captain, he failed to hit a snag in the WTC 2023 final, which India lost to Australia by a huge margin of 209 runs.
On the batting front, he literally gave the opposition teams a run for their money since the inaugural edition of the WTC. He still has the burst of energy in his late '30s and Indian cricket has immensely benefited from the batter’s aggressive approach so far.

It is worth mentioning here that 'Hitman Rohit Sharma’ is India’s leading run-scorer in the WTC. He has been consistent since the first cycle of the championship as he accumulated 2552 runs at a batting average of 50.03 in 32 Tests (54 innings), laced with 9 centuries and 7 fifties. The veteran is expected to garner plenty of runs in the games to come.
The seasoned cricketer has struck as many as 52 sixes in the ICC WTC, which is the second-highest in the list dominated by Ben Stokes with 81 sixes to his credit. On the other hand, Rohit has hammered a flurry of 301 fours, which is the most by an Indian batter in the WTC.
The Nagpur-born was last seen in action during the away three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The senior pro will be back in full swing for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home, which is part of the WTC.
The Test opener will kick off on September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The second and final Test will be held on September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
The skipper who last played will be looking forward to ticking the boxes in batting and captaincy such that India sail smoothly in their journey in a bid to book their berth in the WTC final for the third consecutive time. For the record, India lost to New Zealand and Australia in the first two cycles.
It remains to be seen how they will go about their work in the last leg of the 2023-25 cycle as India will take on Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia in the next four months. As things stand, Team India are on top of the WTC table with 74 points (6 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats). Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh are placed second, third and fourth on the table respectively.
