Dinesh Lad, the coach renowned for his role in shaping Rohit Sharma's cricketing career, has dismissed all speculation about Sharma's retirement following the World Test Championship (WTC).

Amidst swirling rumours of Sharma's imminent departure from international cricket, Lad's insights offer a different perspective, especially concerning Sharma's future in ODI cricket.

Lad, who has been closely associated with Sharma's development from his school days, emphasises the cricketer's mental fortitude and self-belief. These traits have not only helped Sharma lead his IPL team to five championships but also secure a T20 World Cup victory for India.

Lad recalls Sharma's school days, highlighting his knack for achieving big targets single-handedly and his unwavering confidence, which has been a constant throughout his career. Lad suggests that this mental strength and positive mindset are key factors in Sharma's success on the international stage.

During a special conversation with Hindi Daily Dainik Jagran, Lad - the Dronacharya Awardee - shared insights into Rohit's mindset following India's loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. Despite the setback, Sharma's resolve to play for his country remained unshaken.

Lad pointed out that Rohit's positive approach to batting was evident throughout the tournament, and his nervousness post-defeat was a natural reaction to the high stakes of the final match. Lad reassures fans that the T20 World Cup 2024-winning captain's dedication to representing India remains as strong as ever.

Addressing the rumours about the Mumbaikar's retirement, Lad categorically denies them, stating, "No, look, I am not saying that Rohit Sharma will announce his retirement after the World Test Championship, maybe he will. Because as his age is increasing, it seems that he may retire from Tests. The reason for this may also be that he wants to keep himself absolutely fit for ODI cricket. However, I promise 100 per cent that Rohit Sharma will play in the 2027 ODI World Cup."

Lad also touched upon Sharma's leadership style, which often involves a tough-love approach on the field. Despite his stern demeanour during matches, Rohit maintains a supportive relationship with his teammates off the field.

This balance of discipline and encouragement, according to Lad, has significantly contributed to the team's morale and performance. His ability to inspire confidence in young players and lead by example has been pivotal in enhancing the team's overall dynamics.

In addition to discussing the Hitman's leadership and mental resilience, Lad revealed an aspect of the former's game that may be unknown to many fans. From his early cricketing days, Rohit has always advocated for a positive approach to the game, believing that playing under tension hinders performance. This philosophy has been a cornerstone of Sharma's playing style, enabling him to face challenges head-on and achieve remarkable feats in his cricketing career.
