'Rookie' Steven Finn is no 'legend' Glenn McGrath: Watson

By Super Admin

Sydney, June 4(ANI): Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has warned England fast bowler Steven Finn against getting carried away by comparisons to Australian bowling legend Glenn McGrath.

"There should never be any comparisons to Glenn McGrath because he is one of the greatest fast bowlers to have ever played the game," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Watson, as saying.

"The most important thing for [Finn] is to be the best that he can be, and his height is going to give him a great advantage. It's going to be interesting to see how he stacks up against some of the best teams in the world," he added.

Watson, however, does believe that Finn can prove to be a handful during the Ashes.

"He's got the physical capabilities with his height, for a bowler the bounce is definitely a big weapon, it gives you [as a batsman] more room for error, because if you get your length slightly full or slightly short it's harder as a batsman to gauge the length of the ball," Watson said.

The 28-year-old's comments came after Finn earned rave reviews for his first home Test against Bangladesh at Lord's last week, where he recorded match figures of nine for 187.

Earlier, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting had also snubbed claims of Finn being the "new McGrath".

"Someone said this morning that he's 'the new Glenn McGrath' or something so one Test match in and he's got some pretty big raps on him already," Ponting said. (ANI)
