Ross Taylor breaks 112-year-old record in Australia

Perth, Nov 16: New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor broke a 112-year-old record during the 4th day of their 2nd Test match against Australia here at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) ground on Monday.

Taylor, the right-handed Kiwi, smashed an outstanding 290 off 374 balls (43x4) today to register the highest ever Test score by a visiting batsman in Australia. He was 235 not out yesterday (November 15). He was the last man out.

The 31-year-old's 12th Test ton broke late Tip Foster's record which had stood for a very very long time, since 1903.

England's Foster held the record for the highest Test score by a visiting batsman in Australia. He had hit 287 on his Test debut, against the hosts in Sydney in December 1903.

Taylor's 290 is also the 2nd highest ever against Australia behind Len Hutton's (England) 364 at The Oval, London in 1938.

Thanks to Taylor's marathon stay at the wicket, New Zealand also registered their highest ever Test total in Australia. They had 624 all out in 153.5 overs in their first innings, replying to the hosts' 559.
