RR vs CSK: Rajasthan Royals registered their first victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with a nail-biting six-run win over Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Stadium on Sunday, March 30.
Outstanding performances from Wanindu Hasaranga and Jofra Archer proved crucial in defending their competitive total of 182 runs, despite a late charge from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja.

Chasing 183, CSK faced early trouble as Jofra Archer showcased his pace and precision. The English speedster dismissed Rachin Ravindra for a duck, delivering a wicket-maiden in the opening over.
While Ruturaj Gaikwad attempted to anchor the innings with a well-constructed 63 off 44 balls, Rajasthan's bowlers kept the pressure on by picking up wickets at regular intervals. Hasaranga emerged as the game-changer, scalping a wicket in every over he bowled, including the decisive dismissal of Gaikwad in the 16th over.
The match came down to the wire, with CSK needing 20 runs off the final over. With Dhoni and Jadeja at the crease, Chennai fans held their breath in anticipation. However, Rajasthan held their nerve as Dhoni's powerful stroke found Shimron Hetmyer at deep mid-wicket, who completed a clutch catch under immense pressure.
Dhoni's late promotion to No. 7 brought some excitement, but his efforts were not enough to bridge the gap as CSK ended on 176/6.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals' innings was highlighted by an explosive performance from Nitish Rana. Promoted to No. 3, Rana repaid the management's faith with a blistering 81 off 36 balls, dismantling the CSK attack.
He was particularly aggressive against Ravichandran Ashwin, but the veteran spinner turned the tables by outsmarting him with a wide delivery that led to a sharp stumping by Dhoni.
Following Rana's departure, Rajasthan's momentum faltered. Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja applied the brakes, combining sharp bowling with exceptional fielding. Pathirana's brilliant catch and Vijay Shankar's athletic effort further limited Rajasthan's scoring in the latter half of their innings.
Jofra Archer's impactful return to form was another major takeaway from the match. After battling injuries in recent seasons, Archer's fiery spell rattled the Chennai top order and underlined his importance to the Royals.
With this win, Rajasthan Royals moved up the points table, while Chennai Super Kings slipped to seventh with one win and two losses in the competition. CSK will now aim to turn things around when they face Delhi Capitals on April 5 at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, Rajasthan will look to build on this momentum and strengthen their campaign in the IPL 2025 season.
