RR vs CSK: Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a crucial six-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati, earning their first IPL 2025 win.
While Wanindu Hasaranga's four-wicket haul and Jofra Archer's fiery opening spell stole the limelight, two unsung heroes played pivotal roles in ensuring RR had enough on the board and successfully defended it-Nitish Rana and Sandeep Sharma. But between them, who made the more significant impact?

In a game where Rajasthan Royals' usual batting stalwarts, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, faltered, Nitish Rana rose to the occasion with a stunning 81 off just 36 balls. Promoted to No. 3 for this match, he repaid the faith with a counter-attacking knock that set the tone for RR's innings.
Rana's ability to take on spin was on full display, especially against Ravichandran Ashwin, who he had dominated in previous IPL encounters. He hammered Ashwin for two sixes and a four in quick succession, extending his remarkable record against the off-spinner before finally falling to him. By the time he departed, Rana had ensured RR had a strong platform at 112 for 3 in the 11th over.
More importantly, his innings offset RR's sluggish finish, as they managed only 17 runs in the final three overs. Without Rana's blitz, RR would have struggled to post a competitive 182 for 9, making his contribution invaluable.
While Rana's innings laid the foundation, Sandeep Sharma's execution in the final over sealed the deal for Rajasthan. Tasked with defending 19 runs against a pair as dangerous as MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, Sandeep's selection for the over was itself a bold call, considering Archer had an over left.
Sandeep struck immediately, forcing Dhoni to miscue a full toss straight to long-off with his very first legal delivery. The dismissal was a massive moment, as Dhoni had just smashed 10 off the previous two balls in the 19th over and was looking to repeat his finishing heroics.
Despite conceding a boundary to Jadeja, Sandeep kept his cool with well-directed yorkers and slower deliveries, ensuring CSK fell short by six runs. His ability to handle pressure and outthink one of the greatest finishers in the game played a crucial role in RR's victory.
Both players played defining roles in different phases of the game-Rana with the bat in the first innings and Sandeep with the ball in the final over. However, considering RR's batting struggles outside Rana's knock, his innings arguably had the greater impact on the outcome.
Had Rana not taken charge early on, RR might have ended with a below-par total, making Sandeep's heroics redundant. His aggressive intent and ability to counter CSK's spin threat gave RR enough cushion to defend.
While Sandeep's last-over brilliance deserves praise, Rana was the true unsung hero, ensuring RR had something substantial to defend in the first place.
