RR vs CSK: Who was the Most Valuable Player as Rajasthan Royals post maiden win of the season in Guwahati?

By MyKhel Staff

RR vs CSK: Rajasthan Royals secured their first victory of IPL 2025 with a thrilling six-run win over Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on March 30. While several players delivered crucial performances, it was Wanindu Hasaranga who stood out as the Most Valuable Player of the match.

The Sri Lankan spinner put on a masterclass with the ball, dismantling CSK's chase with a wicket in each of his four overs. His variations and precision proved too much for Chennai's batters, and his dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 16th over was arguably the turning point of the game.

Gaikwad, who had anchored the CSK innings with a well-crafted 63 off 44 balls, attempted to take Hasaranga on but was caught at long-on, shifting the momentum firmly in Rajasthan's favour.

Hasaranga's approach was both tactical and disciplined. He started with tight, straight lines before adjusting his lengths to keep the batters guessing. In the post-match interview, he credited his success to maintaining a stump-to-stump line and varying his pace based on how the pitch was playing. His spell of 4-0-26-4 ensured that CSK were never in full control of the chase despite a late surge from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja.

Although Jofra Archer also played a pivotal role with his fiery opening spell, restricting Chennai early on, it was Hasaranga's impact in the middle overs that ultimately sealed the game for Rajasthan. His ability to pick wickets consistently made all the difference in a game where fine margins mattered.

Rajasthan's win was also built on a strong batting effort led by Nitish Rana's explosive 81 off 36 balls. His innings gave RR the platform to post 182/9, a total that proved just enough against a determined CSK lineup. Chennai, now with two losses in three matches, will be looking to regroup before their next fixture against Delhi Capitals.

Hasaranga's performance not only guided Rajasthan to victory but also reaffirmed his status as a match-winner in the IPL. His spell was the defining factor in a closely fought contest, making him the undisputed Most Valuable Player of the match.
