RR vs DC: Prithvi Shaw did not find a place in the Delhi Capitals Playing 11 for their first match of the IPL 2024 against the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Saturday, March 23. Will Prithvi Shaw play today?
Delhi Capitals decided to go with an all Australian opening pair as David Warner and Mitchell Marsh strolled out in the middle to bat at the New PCA Stadium. Explaining the decision to drop Prithvi Shaw from the eleven, team's Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly said that Warner and Marsh have been doing well together.

"Prithvi Shaw is an opener. We decided to open with Marsh and Warner and Ricky Bhui is a middle-order batter. So they bat at different positions. So it's actually not Bhui for sure. It's a different opening combination, they opened for Australia and they have done well together. So we decided to do that," Sourav Ganguly told the press on the eve of Delhi's second IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
Delhi Capitals are set to play their second match of the IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday, March 28. Fans are keen to know if Prithvi Shaw gets a place in Delhi playing 11 against Rajasthan Royals.
The opening pair of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh partnered for 39 runs off 20 balls against Punjab Kings. Warner scored 29 off 21, while Marsh hit 20 off 12.
The decent performance, and Delhi Capitals' plan to open with Warner and Marsh is unlikely to change after one game. Therefore, it's almost certain that Prithvi Shaw will not feature in the Delhi Capitals playing eleven against Rajasthan Royals.
However, there is a chance that Prithvi Shaw gets to play his first match of the IPL 2024 as an Impact Substitute. The 24-year-old can either open with Warner, or bat at three.
Prithvi Shaw recently returned to professional cricket after recovering from a knee injury which he suffered while playing for Northamptonshire during a county stint last year in August. He made his comeback with Mumbai's fifth Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match against Bengal in February.
He was also part of the Mumbai playing eleven which defeated Vidarbha to win their 42 Ranji Trophy title. Shaw scored 46 and 11 in the final. He smashed a hundred in his second match after returning from injury against Chhattisgarh.
Sourav Ganguly also talked about not getting time with Prithvi Shaw in the preparatory camp. He revealed how the plan to have a training camp could not be successful after NCA declared his fit for Ranji Trophy.
"To be honest, we did not get much of Prithvi Shaw in the camp. Unfortunately, he was injured for a long time. After he went to England for the county stint in Northamptonshire where he played exceptionally well and tore his ligament in the knee, we couldn't get him till February. After he came back to fitness, he played Ranji Trophy," Ganguly said.
"I remember we set up a four-day training camp with him, but then, the NCA announced him fit and then he went on to play Ranji Trophy. You can't take anybody away from Ranji Trophy and put in an IPL camp. And then Mumbai won the tournament, and he played till the last day of the tournament. He played till 14th and then joined the camp. So I honestly didn't get Prithvi," he added.
In the IPL 2023, Prithvi Shaw managed only 106 runs in 8 matches at an average of less than 14 per match. Delhi retained him despite the horrendous run.
