Jaipur, Apr 10: The age-old saying in cricket, 'It's never over until the last ball is bowled', once again came true as Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 3 wickets in a last-ball thriller to stop RR's winning streak in IPL 2024.
The never-give-up attitude from Shah Rukh Khan, Rashid Khan, and Rahul Tewatia in the death overs helped Gujarat Titans come back from nowhere to pull off a thrilling three-wicket win at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday (April 10), ending the hosts' unbeaten run in the tournament.

With 42 required off the last 18 balls, Gujarat needed a spirited effort from Rashid and Tewatia after the dismissal of Shah Rukh (14 off 8) at a crunch moment. The duo of Rashid and Rahul - who have done it in the past for GT - showcased the nerves of steel to take their team across the winning line.
With 15 required from the final over, Rashid - who had a brilliant outing with the ball - first hit Avesh Khan for a six, and later scored the remaining nine runs and stunned the packed stadium.
Former Gujarat, captain Shubman Gill (72 off 44) fought a lonely battle for the major part of Titans' innings before Tewatia (22 off 11) and Rashid pulled the rabbit out of the hat in a last-ball finish.
Sanju Samson (68 not out off 38) and Riyan Parag (76 off 48) continued their red-hot form in the competition and slammed imperious fifties to power Rajasthan Royals to 196 for three after being asked to bat first.
For his match-winning effort, Rashid - the star from Afghanistan - was named the player of the match. Rashid said, "Winning the game is more pleasing for me. Happy that I landed the ball where I wanted today and that gave me energy with the bat as well maybe."
Titans' improbable win over Royals - their joint-highest successful run chase in the competition - stunned one and all. Users on X, formerly known as Twitter, were stunned by the way the Sanju Samson-led side gifted the match away to the opposition and flooded the micro-blogging site with funny memes.
Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Anjum Chopra wrote on X, "Wait... till the last ball is played. Then we will know who the winner is... that's every game's story in #IPL #RRvGT."
Veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle posted on X, "I am fascinated by how the modern player looks at targets. They are so nonchalant about 45 in 3 overs. "Just need to hit 3-4 sixes". Begs the question: how much is enough and what is the impact sub going to do to our game."
