Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson pointed out a teammate whom he wanted to hand over his Player of the Match award. Rajasthan recorded a superb victory over Lucknow Super Giants in their first IPL 2024 match on Sunday (March 24).
It was a fantastic victory for the Royals, who started with two important points at home. Sanju Samson played a magnificent knock of 82 runs and was awarded the Player of the Match.

But at the post-match presentation, the RR captain revealed that he should have given away his award to fellow pacer Sandeep Sharma and elaborated the reason behind it.
"I think I should give the trophy to Sandeep Sharma. I wouldn't have been standing here (but for Sandeep Sharma) I thought of calling him, but then thought it would be a bit too much," Samson said at the post-match interview.
Sharma played a crucial part in Royals' victory. He bowled three excellent overs at the death and picked up the crucial wicket of LSG captain KL Rahul, who was batting brilliantly on 58. The pacer conceded only 22 runs in his three overs and changed the dynamic of the match.
"I said Ash bhai say it's not just about skill but character in pressure moments. He has that in his eyes, in his body language which shows that you can trust that guy," Samson added.
Sandeep Sharma was roped in as a replacement player last season and has been a key performer for the Royals since then. The 30-year-old pacer has picked up 125 wickets in 117 IPL matches.
