RR vs PBKS: Rajasthan Royals (RR) were dealt a double setback ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, with two key players-Jofra Archer and Nitish Rana-ruled out due to injuries.
RR, already out of playoff contention, are now grappling with forced changes in their XI as they look to finish the season with pride.

Jofra Archer, the English pace spearhead, suffered a thumb injury while fielding in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 4. Initially, the incident seemed minor, but further scans revealed ligament damage, ending his season prematurely. Archer's absence is a huge void in RR's already struggling pace department.
Stepping in is 18-year-old South African quick Kwena Maphaka, who now shoulders the responsibility of leading the pace unit.
Meanwhile, Nitish Rana-who brought experience and reliability to the Royals' middle order-has also been sidelined. A calf strain picked up during a training session last week ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament.
Despite early optimism about his recovery, medical evaluations confirmed he needed complete rest. To replace him, RR have signed Lhuan-dre Pretorius, a promising 21-year-old South African batter, underlining the team's focus on youth development.
Speaking at the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson addressed the absence of both players and confirmed his own return from injury: "Let's see how it plays out today. I am okay, hundred percent fit. I would love to respect where he (Suryavanshi) is batting. He has played well for us. I will bat down the order, I come in for Nitish Rana. Maphaka comes in for Jofra Archer."
With playoff hopes no longer in sight, RR's focus has shifted to testing their bench strength and grooming young talent. However, the loss of two key contributors-one in the bowling attack and the other in the batting core-could prove challenging against a confident Punjab Kings outfit.
After the end of 20 overs, Punjab put up a huge target of 220 batting first.
