RR vs SRH: What happened in only IPL playoffs meeting between Rajasthan and Hyderabad in 2013?

RR vs SRH: Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be facing each other in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, May 24. This will be only the second instance of the two teams going against each other in IPL playoffs.

Rajasthan and Hyderabad first clashed against each other in the IPL playoffs back in 2013. Rahul David-led RR was up against Cameron White's SRH in the Eliminator of IPL 2013 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 22.

After electing to bat first, Hyderabad were restricted to 132/7 in 20 overs. Opener Parthiv Patel, and number three batter Hanuma Vihari scored one run each, while opener Shikhar Dhawan chipped in with 33 off 39 balls.

Captain Cameron White (31) and Daren Sammy (29) were the only two other batters who crossed the 15-run mark. SRH pacer Vikramjeet Malik picked two wickets for SRH, while James Faulkner, Shane Watson and Siddharth Trivedi picked a wicket each.

In reply, Rajasthan Royals scripted a thrilling run-chase after getting reduced to 57/5 in 10 overs. Openers Rahul Dravid (12), Ajinkya Rahane (18), and number three batter Shane Watson (24) got starts but could not capitalise. Dravid was dismissed by Ishan Sharma, while Rahane got out caught and bowled by Amit Mishra. Karn Sharma picked the wicket of Watson.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dishant Yagnik was dismissed for a duck, while Stuart Binny could only score 2 runs off six balls. Both the batters were dismissed by Daren Sammy.

A young Sanju Samson came in to bat at six and scored 10 runs off 21 balls, but forged a crucial 45-run partnership off 35 balls for the sixth wicket with Brad Hodge. He was trapped in front of the stumps by Dale Steyn (1/23).

Once Samson departed in the 16th over, James Faulkner joined forces with Hodge to take Rajasthan past the winning line on the second ball of the 20th over.

Hodge, who came in to bat at seven, remained unbeaten on 54 off 29, and partnered for unbeaten 33 runs off 21 balls with Faulkner (11* off 11). Hodge's innings consisted of two fours and five sixes. He was adjudged Man of the Match post RR's four-wicket win.

Later, Mumbai Indians defeated Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 and then thrashed CSK to win the IPL 2013.
