Harris warns England hostile Cummins is ready to fire

Sydney, Nov 8: Ryan Harris believes "the sky is the limit" for Pat Cummins and is backing the Australia paceman to torment England in his first Ashes series.

Cummins burst onto the scene with an outstanding Test debut in South Africa as a teenager in 2011, but had to wait six years for another appearance in the longest format after being plagued by injuries.

The 24-year-old is set to play in his first Test on home soil against Joe Root's side at the Gabba in a fortnight and warned the tourists to expect plenty of hostile short stuff.

Former Australia quick Harris thinks Cummins is ready to make up for lost time and take the Ashes by storm.

Harris told Omnisport: "I think it could be a huge series for him. It will be his first Test series at home in conditions he knows and loves. I know he's fit and firing and excited about it, hopefully we'll see the best of him.

"If you see the best of Pat Cummins you'll see he has searing pace, he's very accurate and he has already said he's ready to put a few bouncers down to the England batsmen.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes because we have not seen much of him on the first-class scene, but the Australia public will love seeing how quick he can bowl when they see him live.

"The sky is the limit for him, he's only 24 and he can be whatever he wants to be. If he stays fit he can take a lot of Test wickets with that pace.

"As a quick bowler, if you know you have that pace, you know you can do anything and he can move the ball as well."

The formidable trio of Harris, Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle inflicted misery on the England batsmen when they were whitewashed 5-0 on their last Ashes tour.

Harris thinks Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are capable of doing, even more, damage as Steve Smith's men attempt to regain the little urn.

He added: "We had a decent bowling attack last time and we've probably got a better one this time. If the boys get it right, we have three big blokes who can bowl with really good pace.

"The England batsmen know what is coming and that will be the challenge for them."
