Australia found themselves in a precarious situation during their latest ICC World Cup 2023 match as they lost four of their top-order batters with barely 50 runs on the board while chasing 312 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday (October 11). However, the dismissal of Steve Smith stood out among all the rest.
The Australian batter was left stunned after being adjudged out following a DRS review in the 10th over, when a delivery by Kagiso Rabada landed close to the leg stump and hit the No. 3 batter on the pads.

Steve Smith immediately signalled that it landed outside off stump but Quinton de Kock, standing behind guarding the stumps was quite confident that the ball has landed within the legal area and urged Temba Bavuma to successfully take a DRS.
To the surprise of many, including Steve Smith, the decision came in favour of the Proteas as the Hawk-eyes confirmed there was no bat involved while the ball pitched in the leg-stump line before impact with Smith's pad while confirming it would have clipped the bails.
Smith walked back to the pavillion in disagreement after standing shocked at the decision for a while. Marnus Labuschagne, at the other end, couldn't believe at the decison as well while the South African broke into a celebration.
At the time of writing, Australia were down at 85/6 in 21.4 overs while chasing a target of 312. The other Australian wickets to fell were Mitchell Marsh (7), David Warner (13), Josh Inglis (5), Glenn Maxwell (3) and Marcus Stoinis (5) while Kagiso Rabada picked three of the top-order wickets.
Earlier in the first innings, a century by Quinton de Kock (109) helped South Africa put a steep 311/7 on the board while Aiden Markram contributed a 56 down the order. Both the batters earlier scored a century in the last match for a 102-run win over Sri Lanka to start their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign.
